Gamification

Gamification applies game mechanics to non-game contexts rather than using actual games. Evidence for its motivational effects is mixed — extrinsic rewards can undermine intrinsic motivation over time. Most effective when game elements align with learning goals.

Applying game design elements (points, badges, leaderboards) to educational contexts to increase motivation and engagement.
