Problem-based learning

Problem-based learning (PBL) originates in medical education. The key feature is that the problem comes before instruction — students discover what they need to know through attempting to solve it. Distinct from project-based learning in that the problem, not a product, is the anchor.

Students learn content and skills through the process of solving an open, ill-structured problem.
