Scaffolding

Vygotsky's zone of proximal development underpins scaffolding — support is targeted at what students can do with help, not without. Effective scaffolding is temporary and systematically removed as competence grows. Common scaffolds include sentence starters, worked examples, graphic organisers, and strategic questioning.

Temporary support provided to students that enables them to complete tasks they could not yet manage independently.
