Mini-lesson

Mini-lessons (Lucy Calkins, Readers and Writers Workshop) are explicitly time-limited to preserve the majority of lesson time for student practice. The teacher teaches one clear skill or strategy, then releases students to apply it.

A brief, focused whole-class teaching session (typically 10–15 minutes) that precedes independent or small-group work.
